Rafael Molano started selling cakes to his coworkers in 1950 and, due to the great interest of his customers, he decided to expand his business. As his business became more popular, he realized that people only bought them for special occasions, which led him to look for new ways of marketing and he established a distribution network mainly in neighborhood stores in the city of Bogotá.
Little by little, orders increased and in the 1960s, the company made the decision to establish the first plant to increase production, which allowed it to market its products throughout the country. The company's first factory was located in the San Andresito neighborhood of the country's capital city. Later, it established a new facility in Sabaneta, Antioquia, but eventually moved to Mosquera, Cundinamarca, where its main plant is currently located.
To keep prices competitive in the market, Ramo products were distributed using tricycles, a very novel system at the time and one that proved quite successful. The image of Rafael Antonio Niño, a professional cyclist on one of the tricycles, became one of the company's first public relations campaigns. Today, Ramo still maintains this distribution system, mainly in cities.
Today Ramo is one of the most important companies in the country and is one of the favorite brands in Colombian homes due to its wide range of products and high quality. At first, it sold cakes, but now it has almost 20 different products, including cookies, snacks, bread and cakes.
