By chance, Luis Fernando Vélez came across the subject of coffee. Paradoxically, he learned how to make good coffee during a trip to London. In 1992, his business took him to England with the excuse of attending a dried flower fair. On this occasion and by chance, his dear friend Alejandro Rengifo taught him how to make coffee for the French press.

After returning to Bogotá, Luis Fernando brought some of these coffee makers with him to provide good coffee to the customers of the small gift shop called Amor Perfeito. The place became a reference point for enjoying good coffee in Bogotá and people came there looking for it. Luis Fernando saw a business opportunity and decided to set up a café inside the gift store, which later disappeared due to the success of the coffee.

Back then, Colombia was known for producing the world's most outstanding green coffee, however, the coffee consumed in the country was of low quality. Each high-quality coffee bean had to be exported under a law called "Pasilla y Ripio." Colombian companies were not allowed to purchase, roast, or market high-quality beans grown in their country. Luis Fernando takes on the task of ensuring that Colombia can enjoy the best coffee in the world amidst this situation. Love Perfect was created with the intention of fostering a high-quality coffee culture.

Luis Fernando strives to fulfill his dream and does everything he can to defy the law. In 1997, he acquired his first roaster and began buying beans from exporters who exceeded their export limit. Five years later, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, with Amor Perfecto as a reference, becomes aware of the situation and decides to push for the modification of this legislation. In 2003, the government modified the law, allowing Colombian companies to include high-quality beans, process them, and sell them on the national market.
